Plan Your Mission Trip

The best way to help the people of the Yucatan is to take a trip down yourself to lend a hand. All you have to do to make a difference is follow these simple steps:

Plan Your Trip

Prayerfully consider whether God is calling your group to active participation in this ministry in the Yucatan.

If you are an individual or very small group, you may want to consider joining a group that already has a trip planned. The group’s size should not exceed 10 people. Lodging is provided near the Luke’s home in four three-person rooms with private baths and hammocks or beds. Youth under the age of 16 should be accompanied by their parent. Maria prepares three delicious meals a day for all mission participants.

Confirm a Date

Mission trips normally occur February through mid April (Spring Break) or mid May through July. Contact Todd at or call (847) 867-0085 to confirm availability of your date.

Travel to Cancun

Groups normally fly into Cancun airport. Rental vehicles are needed for the 6-7 hour drive to Xpujil.

Travel Schedule

Groups can travel on the days that best fit their schedule. Tuesday to Tuesday trips work well for many groups. Groups arrive Cancun airport 11AM to1 PM, eat and exchange money in Playa Del Carmen or Tulum, and arrive Xpujil about 10PM. Wednesday through Saturday are work days. Groups generally attend church in Castilla Brito on Sunday morning and evening. Some groups drive to Playa Del Carmen Monday for a day of R&R (shopping, beach, etc) and return home on Tuesday.

Groups should be flexible as to the work they are asked to do. They may request a preference: Cistern Building, Sewing Clinics, or work at Todd’s farm. Some groups have nightly Bible School activities for the 100 children of the village.

Mayan Ruins

Sunday afternoon many groups tour the Becan Mayan Ruins that are only 15 minutes from the Lukes’ home.

There are churches and individuals who generously donate money for cistern construction even though they do not send anyone to help with the construction. However, most cistern funding comes directly from the mission teams that assist with construction. Each cistern costs about $1,800 to build.  A team will work on at least three cisterns during the week. Therefore, we ask teams to donate between $3,600 and $5,400 for cistern construction.
